Sea Fishing Tackle Analysis: The Okuma Trio 40S High Speed Spinning Reel by Tommy Jones
Imagine that you are positioned along a windy seashore at daybreak. As the heavens start filling up with colours, you throw a lure in the water, looking for a grab. Waiting...waiting...waiting...and all of a sudden, the struggle commences! There's nothing I relish more than just such a fight. Although I enjoy all types of angling, sea fishing is by far my favourite. The excitement is tremendous as I load up my sea fishing tackle. If you do as well, then like me, I'm certain you choose your fishing gear with great care. One reel I'm particularly fond of is my Okuma Trio 40S high speed spinning reel, and I'd like to share my thoughts about it with you.
Sea Fishing Tackle: Key Features of the Okuma Trio 40S High Speed Spinning Reel
There are plenty of creative functions that come with the Trio 40S features, like a unique crossover style using graphite and aluminium. The one-piece aluminium rotor arm and reel stem combine with a lightweight graphite rotor housing and side plates. The outcome? Amazing toughness in an outstanding piece of lightweight fishing tackle. The spool has a construction with numerous parts to secure the drag system inside an aluminium chamber that provides remarkable evenness and balance. The housing, which is constructed from graphite, lessens the weight and also makes it look classier. The 40S's longevity is reinforced through a process in which each piece (housing and internal) are coated; this is known as corrosion resistant coating (CRC). The coating bonds to the metal, significantly increasing the reel's resistance to corrosion. The anodised components are a dazzling orange colour.
Sea Fishing Tackle: Even More Features of the Okuma Trio 40S Reel
Another feature I'm keen on is the 40S's dual force drag (DFD) system. Utilising multi-disc Japanese-oiled drag washers made from felt, the system puts tension on the spool from both the top and bottom, which delivers greater drag pressure. I consider the DFD to be very smooth and steady. Also, the reel has 9 ball bearings, and a quick-set anti-reverse roller bearing, both of which contribute to casts and retrieves that are consistent and extremely fluid. I also appreciate Okuma's elliptical oscillation system (EOS), which performs flawlessly, leading to even line lay, cast after cast.
Sea Fishing Tackle: Closing Remarks on the Okuma Trio 40S High Speed Reel
The aluminium handle (forged), drag seal (waterproof), and rugged anodised bail wire (aluminium) all factor into the top quality look and feel of the reel. There's also is a computer-balanced rotor equalising system (RESII). In addition, I've learned that the 40S has an extremely durable, precision machine-cut brass pinion gear. The reel features a 6.1 to 1 retrieve ratio, and will support 170m by .30mm of mono filament line. Trio reels include a 12-month warranty. Could I expect anything more out of sea fishing tackle that sells for about £60 to £70? The answer is clearly no!
The Okuma Trio 40S high speed spinning reel is really a first-class little bit of sea fishing tackle that I enthusiastically recommend..
